A dynamical adjustment perspective on extreme event attribution

چکیده

Abstract. Here we demonstrate that dynamical adjustment allows a straightforward approach to extreme event attribution within conditional framework. We illustrate the potential of with two iconic events occurred in 2010: early winter European cold spell and Russian summer heat wave. use based on constructed atmospheric circulation analogues isolate various contributions these using only observational reanalysis datasets. Dynamical results confirm previous findings regarding role provide quantitative estimate dynamic thermodynamic amplitude. Furthermore, is also used identify drivers recent 1979–2018 trends maximum minimum temperature changes over western Europe Asia. The suggest significant component explaining different regions, including regions around Black Caspian seas as well central coasts Europe. Finally, offers simple complementary storyline advantage no climate model simulations are needed, making it promising candidate for fast-track any real-time system.

A Common Framework for Approaches to Extreme Event Attribution

The extent to which a given extreme weather or climate event is attributable to anthropogenic climate change is a question of considerable public interest. From a scientific perspective, the question can be framed in various ways, and the answer depends very much on the framing. One such framing is a risk-based approach, which answers the question probabilistically, in terms of a change in like...

A Bayesian perspective on the Bonferroni adjustment

Bayes/frequentist correspondences between the p-value and the posterior probability of the null hypothesis have been studied in univariate hypothesis testing situations. This paper extends these comparisons to multiple testing and in particular to the Bonferroni multiple testing method, in which p-values are adjusted by multiplying by k, the number of tests considered. In the Bayesian setting, ...

Symptom attribution and presentation in general practice after an extreme life event.

BACKGROUND A serious life event is likely to shape attributions relating to symptoms experienced afterwards. While they may play an important role in prognosis and seeking care, such perceptions have hardly been studied among survivors of a disaster. OBJECTIVE To investigate the association between self-reported health problems that have been attributed to an extreme life event and the sympto...

A dynamical perspective on attitude change

This paper focuses at the dynamics of attitude change in large groups. A multi-agent computer simulation has been developed as a tool to study these dynamics. A major extension in comparison to earlier models is that Social Judgement Theory is being formalised to incorporate processes of assimilation and contrast in persuasion processes. Results demonstrate that the attitude structure of agents...

A Nonlinear Dynamical Perspective on Climate Prediction

A nonlinear dynamical perspective on climate prediction is outlined, based on a treatment of climate as the attractor of a nonlinear dynamical system D with distinct quasi-stationary regimes. The main application is toward anthropogenic climate change, considered as the response of D to a small-amplitude imposed forcing f. The primary features of this perspective can be summarized as follows. F...
